Appetite Control And YOU
Susan Nelson Hopkins
Are you frustrated because you're not losing as much weight as you want or need to... and not nearly fast enough?
Have you quit, or are you thinking about it... really, really hard?
Perhaps you've decided since your diet isn't working, you'll just eat as little as possible for a while.
Neither of these approaches is a good idea. If you're upset because you just can't seem to lose weight, you could benefit from understanding about appetite control, and what you can do to feel full longer... and stay on track.
Some people control their appetite by keeping their mouth and stomach busy. Try munching on ice chips when you start to feel those devilish hunger pangs coming on, or you're tempted to snack. (Just a couple of bites won't hurt, right?). Grab that ice quick!
Melting water from the chips will fill you up and has no calories. It also simulates chewing and eating... and could help you stay on your diet. Often, chewing on ice chips (no, not potato chips) instead of taking an appetite suppressant is more effective because you will actually feel like you've eaten something.
If chewing on ice chips isn't appealing to you, consider snacking on small, healthy foods throughout the day. Not only will you feel full, but your blood sugar levels will stay even and your metabolism will increase.
Foods that are high in fiber are some of the best foods to snack on because they make you feel full, plus you're actually eating something. Vegetables and fruits are an obvious, but effective, choice when it comes to snacking.
Eating at least three balanced meals will also help curb your appetite throughout the day because they include variety, and those really important sweet and savory tastes... and actually help reduce cravings. Five small meals actually work best for me, because I really can't eat very much at one sitting... plus it feels like I'm eating all the time. Yep... it's a "good thing".
Here's a good tip... take short breaks during these meals. This allows your system to start digesting the meal, and you will feel full quicker... and not overeat.
You owe it to yourself to be a more patient dieter. Weight loss can be a tricky thing because we're all different (thank goodness). What works for me might not work as well for you. The main thing is to be consistent, and use good old "common sense".
